Chess Move #2

Here is a second video showing my progress in learning 3D max. I finished modeling all the chess pieces except for the knight. It is the hardest so I am saving it for last.  Creating things that don’t really exist is really fun.

I added a spotlight and a camera. These were done as afterthoughts and done very poorly. I definately have to learn more about lighting and cameras.  So in the next video will show much better lighting and camera work and hopefully the rest of the animation.  This has been a fun project and I have learned a ton about 3D max and modeling.  This software is incredible.  You can create anything and make it look real.

Uriah Heep – Easy Livin’

I will be seeing these guys on Friday.  I imagine the crowd will be fairly small and mellow since their popularity in the states was more of a cult following after their radio songs played out.  Still they had some good tunes back in the day.

Chess Move #1

I will be teaching 3D Modeling and Animation next year.  Since I know nothing about it,  I modeled a chess board and the pawn.  I completed the first move with a targeted spotlight.  All this is really hard – meaning tedious.

When you add that third dimension, things get dicey.  Anyway this represents about three hours of work.  Someone well-versed in 3D Studio Max could probably do this in 20 minutes.  I will post progressive videos and document my progress here.  I plan to animate and model all chess pieces and animate five chess moves.  I am actually done with models except for the knight.

Happy Father’s Day!!!

For the record:  I love being a Dad more than anything in the world!

I’m still here

Just in case there is anybody out there who cares,  I am still here.  I have been off-line for some time.  DSL modem went bad, switched ISP, took awhile to hook me up coupled with my general laziness – but I am back baby!!!! – expect the same level of mediocrity.

Hi Neighbor

I have been plagued with a terribly slow DSL connection for weeks now.  That is my excuse for lack of posts.  Well that and just plain laziness.  Anyway I am getting new broadband service next week including cable TV!  Yeah I am finally joining the middle class.  Until then I am using my neighbors unsecured wireless connection for surfing and posting.  Hey if he is not going to lock it down then anyone can just take it right?

Anyway, I don’t know which neighbor it is but I thank you for your unintentional sharing of your internet service.  Don’t forget to lock up your tools; I might need something.

Crowded Nest

In the life of a Robin, one week makes a difference. The nest is looking pretty small compared to last week.

Student Academy Award – Stop motion

KCAI studentss strike gold on this stop-motion film – nicely done! This is a big accomplishment for these guys. Student films go through many competitions and multiple screenings before they even have chance to compete for this award much less win it…excellent!

Baby Robins

Here is what Mama Robin has been sitting on. I expected to see eggs, instead there are 4 or maybe 5 babies. I am sure she will kick one of them out.

Psycho Cat

This cat has some serious trust issues.

Mama Robin

This robin made a nice home for its babies underneath my roof overhang.  Pretty smart bird – out of the rain and direct sun, out of reach of the many predator cats that prowl the neighborhood.  Maybe I should put up a web cam to watch the development?

Friday Funny: Horror movie

Hobbit Doll House

I have never had an interest in miniatures until now:

Here is a shot of the hallway:

Very impressive – more photos at the artists site.

Ten Cool Classic Ray Harryhausen

At Revival House, you can see 10 classic stop-motion sequences by the master.  Here is one of my favorites from 1956:

Friday Funny – Nails

I haven’t done one of these for awhile.
